Fluke Earth Tester, ±1.5% Accuracy, 15h Battery Life - FLUKE-1630-2 FC

This earth tester is a clamp-type instrument for Rapid stakeless measurement of earth ground loop resistance and AC leakage current in locations where driving auxiliary stakes is impractical. It operates from battery power and is intended for indoor and outdoor field use on multi-grounded systems, enabling resistance checks without disconnecting earthing conductors.

Features & Benefits

• Measures loop resistance with ±1.5% accuracy at low ranges for precise diagnostics
• Autoranging AC leakage current true rms measurement for accurate fault identification
• Stores up to 32,760 logged readings to simplify trend analysis
• Band-pass filter option to reduce interference during leakage tests
• Wireless connectivity to transfer results to mobile devices and Cloud storage
• Accepts 4xAA batteries and provides more than 15 h runtime for extended field use

Applications

• Suitable for testing earthing on fully paved substations and rooftops
• Ideal for verifying earthing components in automation panels
• Used for diagnosing leakage currents in industrial motor installations
• Can be used for maintenance checks on power distribution busbars
• Suitable for contractors performing safety verification of earthing networks

What conductor size can be accommodated by the clamp jaw?

The jaw accepts conductors up to approximately 40mm diameter to encircle busbars and bundled earth leads.

How does the stakeless measurement determine resistance?

The clamp injects a known voltage and measures the resulting current around the conductor to calculate loop resistance without auxiliary stakes.

What environmental limits affect operation in the field?

It operates between -10 °C and +50 °C with specified humidity ranges and an ingress protection rating of IP30 with the jaw closed.

What safety categories and voltage ratings apply during measurement?

The instrument meets CAT IV 600V and CAT III 1000V measurement-category requirements for use on distribution systems.

How does the device handle electromagnetic noise during leakage measurements?

A selectable band-pass filter reduces unwanted noise and improves measurement stability across the specified 40 Hz–1 kHz frequency range.
