What are Push Button Switches?

Push button switches are used every day in some shape or form in industry, in the office, or at home in the Philippines.   • Anti-Vandal Switches: Designed for environments where durability is crucial, anti-vandal switches are commonly used in public areas where they may be subjected to tampering or damage. Their robust construction makes them ideal for tamper-proof ignition systems in vehicles, ensuring longevity and reliability even in harsh conditions. These switches are engineered to withstand significant wear and tear, making them a preferred choice for outdoor and high-traffic applications.

Functional and Operational Features

Operational Modes of Push Buttons

Push button switches offer a variety of operational modes to cater to diverse applications and control requirements as follows:

  • Alternate: In the alternate mode, also known as a push-push switch, the push button component changes state with each press. This is commonly used for functions like turning a light on and off.
  • Latching: Latching push buttons maintain their state (on or off) even after the button is released. A second press is required to reset the switch. This is useful for applications where continuous operation is needed without holding down the button.
  • Maintained: Similar to latching, maintained push buttons remain in their activated state until manually reset. The difference is that they often require a separate reset button or mechanism.
  • Momentary: These push button switches only remain active as long as they are held down. They are commonly used for functions like starting a machine or initiating a process.
  • Pull to Reset: After activation, these push buttons require a manual pull action to reset. They are often used for emergency stop functions.
  • Push to Lock/Twist to Release: This mode combines push button activation with a twist mechanism for releasing the switch. It's commonly used in industrial settings for secure control.

Illuminated vs. Non-Illuminated

Push button switches come in illuminated and non-illuminated versions. Illuminated push buttons, often using LEDs, provide visual feedback about the switch's status, which is helpful in low-light conditions or when the switch is located in a hard-to-reach area. Non-illuminated push buttons are simpler and more cost-effective, suitable for applications where visual indication isn't necessary. The choice depends on the specific requirements of the application.
