SICK S30B Series Laser Scanner, 30m Maximum Scanning Distance, 80ms Maximum Response Time - S30B-2011BA / 1026820

This laser scanner is a safety-orientated optical sensor designed for perimeter protection and distance measurement in industrial automation environments. It operates as a multi-field safety device with configurable detection zones and communicates measurement and diagnostic data via serial interfaces. The unit is suited to integration with control systems where monitored stop, restart interlock and external device surveillance are required.

Features & Benefits

• 2–30 m scanning distance for extended detection coverage
• 270° scanning angle enables wide-area monitoring
• 80ms response time minimises reaction latency
• 0.5° angular resolution for precise object localisation
• Type3 safety classification meets demanding functional safety needs
• 905nm pulsed laser reduces interference from ambient light

Applications

• Suitable for safeguarding automated guided vehicle perimeters
• Ideal for access protection around robotic workcells
• Used for collision avoidance in material handling systems
• Can be used for zone monitoring on production lines
• Suitable for integration with PLCs via safe device communication

How is configuration stored and applied on site?

Configuration is stored in an internal memory and can be loaded or edited using PC-based configuration and diagnostic software over an RS-232 connection.

Which interfaces support higher-speed data exchange?

Measurement and diagnostic data can be transmitted via RS-422 at up to 500k Baud and safe device communication via EFI at the same rate.

What electrical connections are required for outputs and I/O?

The device provides one pair of OSSD outputs and multiple programmable universal I/Os, with OSSD switching capacity of 2x250 mA and diagnostic outputs of 3x100 mA.

What environmental and mechanical considerations affect installation?

The housing is aluminium die-cast with an IP65 rating, polycarbonate optics cover with scratch protection, and vibration/shock resistance to relevant IEC standards.

How does the device support system-level safety monitoring?

It offers restart interlock, external device monitoring and contamination warning via freely programmable universal I/Os.
