Schneider Electric VARIO Series Isolator Switch, 41.5A Switching Current, IP65 - VBF3

This isolator switch provides safe manual disconnection for three-phase systems in industrial control panels and on-door installations. It is intended for preventive maintenance and isolation duties, offering a robust rotary handle for clear ON/OFF operation and suitability for both AC and DC networks within typical plant environments.

Features & Benefits

• 41.5A operational current delivering stable load switching
• 690V rated operational voltage for high-voltage applications
• 22kW switching power enabling medium-power motor control
• IP65 enclosure rating allowing use in dusty or wet conditions
• Screw clamp terminals accepting up to 25mm² conductors
• Padlock compatibility for secure isolation during service

Applications

• Suitable for door-mounted isolation of control panels in factories
• Ideal for three-phase motor isolation in machinery rooms
• used with switchgear requiring padlockable safety isolation
• Suitable for maintenance isolation in automation cabinets
• Used for isolating distribution circuits in harsh environments

What Terminal types and conductor sizes are supported?

Power connections use screw clamp terminals that accept solid conductors up to 25mm² and flexible cables with ferrules up to 16mm² when tightened to 4N·m.

How does the handle support secure lock-out procedures?

The rotary handle accepts 1 to 3 padlocks with shackle diameters of 4 to 8mm, allowing compliant lock-out during maintenance.

What mechanical and electrical endurance can be expected?

The mechanism is rated for 30,000 mechanical cycles and 30,000 electrical cycles under AC-21 and DC-1 to 5 duty classes.

What environmental and safety conditions does it tolerate?

It operates between −20 to 50°C, withstands vibrations (10 to 150Hz, 1gn) and shocks (11ms, 30gn), and meets an 8kV impulse withstand rating.

Which short-circuit characteristics are relevant for protective device coordination?

It has a rated conditional short-circuit current of 10kA at 400V with associated 63A aM or gG fusing and a making capacity up to 630A at 400V.

Note

The figures quoted for rated operational power within the price table are with respect to a voltage of 230/240V, with figures within brackets ( ) being those with respect to a voltage of 690V.
The higher current rating refers to use in free air, the lower current rating represents use in an enclosure.
