Hi everyone, and welcome back to another episode of "Elevating Your Machine Design." I'm Rafael, and today we will be sharing effective ways to simplify motor control in your machines. The most common way to control motors is by using a frequency drive, because this device gives you flexibility in direction, different speeds, and ramp adaptation of the motors. So how do machine builders usually realise this? And how does the conventional approach compare to our Phoenix Contact solution? Let's get right into it. Conventionally, variable frequency drives, also known as VFDs, are used. But in most applications, only two speeds and a ramp function are needed. This means that many of the additional features in VFDs are often not utilised, making configuration lengthy and troublesome. So how can we elevate your machine design by simplifying motor control in your machine? Phoenix Contact has created a new device class called Speed Starter. Just like its name, it provides speed control with up to four speeds, forward and reverse, along with ramp functionality, while being the slimmest VFDs on the market. Settings can easily be changed on the spot according to the application. Additionally, there is Safe Torque Off, or STO, which you can connect to an emergency stop or other safety devices in case of an emergency. Without ramp configurations, the sudden start or stop of the conveyor can cause instability to the products being transported. To set the ramp function, just turn the rotary switch to "Ramp", set the right value using the up and down buttons, and press the Set/Reset button to store the value. Hello, I'm Khai Ping, and welcome to Mastering PLCnext Technology — a series where we show you how to adopt PLCnext with ease. In today's episode, we'll be sharing how the PLCnext controller offers robust web-based management (WBM) features that simplify diagnostics and monitoring. It allows users to monitor the status of the controller and connected devices in real time. You can view detailed diagnostic information, including error codes and system status. Firstly, to access web-based management, connect the PLC to your PC via a LAN cable. Next, open a web browser and enter the IP address of the controller. Add "/wbm" after the IP address. Enter the username and password. By default, the username is "admin". The password can be found printed on the surface of the PLC. Once logged in, you can view the overall system status under "Cockpit", including the health status, memory space, and runtime of the controller. Navigate to "Diagnostics", then "Local Bus", to view the status of I/O modules. Error codes will be displayed if there are issues with the I/O modules. Use this information to troubleshoot and resolve any problems that arise. Refer to the "Notifications" section for system logs such as hardware operations and communication diagnostics. The table lists all activities that occur during the operational period, allowing you to trace issues and understand where and how to resolve them. You can apply filters to sort by the start and end times of events. An export function is also available — you can export the list in .csv format for further analysis and use. Through web-based management, you can effectively monitor and diagnose your automation systems, ensuring optimal performance and quick resolution of any issues. Thank you for watching.
