Eaton MTL Zener Barrier, 14mA, 10.5V - MTL5500 Series - MTL5511/RS
To optimise safety in hazardous areas, choose this zener barrier from Eaton's MTL range. It processes standard electrical signals of up to 14mA in intrinsic safety systems. Use it in single-loop instruments or fully-equipped enclosures to divert excess electrical energy to the ground to prevent sparking and overheating, which can lead to damage and injuries. The unit lets you control a safe-area load with a switch or proximity detector located in a hazardous area. A line-fault detect (LFD) facility picks up short circuits in the field.

What's the difference between a zener barrier and a galvanic isolator?
A zener barrier diverts excess energy to the ground through fuses and diodes. Galvanic isolators use relays, transformers and optoisolators to provide isolation between the circuits in dangerous and safe areas.

DIN-rail mounting and plug-in signal and power connectors simplify installation and maintenance. These IS units are powered from a 20 to 35 V dc supply voltage, or, in some cases, from the signal itself.
