Red Pitaya Scoops 2014 Global New Product Innovation Award from Frost & Sullivan

Innovative Red Pitaya instrumentation and control ecosystem, available exclusively from RS Components and Allied Electronics, earns best-in-class performance in Electronic Test & Measurement Tools category

Manila, Philippines, 10 February 2015:

RS Components (RS) and Allied Electronics (Allied), the trading brands of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the global distributor for engineers, have announced that Red Pitaya, the company behind the groundbreaking low-cost open-source instrumentation and control platform, has received the Frost & Sullivan 2014 Global New Product Innovation Award in the Electronic Test & Measurement Tools category.

Independent research conducted by Frost & Sullivan's Growth Partnership Service aims to highlight successful growth strategies achieved by companies operating in the global test & measurement market, with best-in-class performance recognized in the three key areas of growth, innovation and leadership. Following extensive analysis according to the key benchmarking criteria of new product attributes such as quality and design; and customer impact, including price/performance value, positioning and customer ownership experience, Red Pitaya was rated highest performing company in the category for 2014.

The Frost & Sullivan research highlighted that key aspects to the positioning of Red Pitaya are that it is a multi-function, open-source, and reconfigurable instrument. Red Pitaya is more than a product; it is a test and measurement environment that includes the board, an application store called Bazaar, a source code library called Backyard, all of which foster collaboration and ultimately unleash the inventiveness of users. Red Pitaya is based on a dual core ARM Cortex A9 + Xilinx Zynq 7010 FPGA system-on-chip (SoC), which features a dual core processor and FPGA logic, allowing for software and hardware programming. Customizable at the FPGA and CPU levels, Red Pitaya is able to process real-world signals.

The evaluation by Frost & Sullivan concluded: "Red Pitaya is a breath of fresh air in the test and measurement industry. Frost & Sullivan's independent analysis of the test & measurement market clearly shows that through a combination of high performance and small size at a lower price than competing alternatives, the value proposition of Red Pitaya is boosted by the open-source and reconfigurable aspects of the platform. With its strong overall performance, Red Pitaya has earned Frost & Sullivan's 2014 Global New Product Innovation Award."

The report also highlighted the successful role of RS and Allied as exclusive global distributors of the Red Pitaya platform, which has witnessed great demand in the U.S., Germany, and Japan since its introduction to market in May 2014, and is gathering pace worldwide.

Rok Mesar, CEO of Red Pitaya, commented: "The defined nature of other instruments currently available in the market is a challenge for end users, as they cannot use them for specific applications beyond their basic functions and, more importantly, evolve them as their needs change. Red Pitaya offers a more flexible solution, and this award is testament to the need for this type of instrumentation ecosystem. I would also like to put on record that the support from RS and Allied has been a key component in Red Pitaya's success."

Ignacio Yanez, Category Marketing Manager, Electrical & Test and Measurement, RS Components, added: "When we assumed the position of exclusive distributor for the Red Pitaya platform less than one year ago, we had undertaken extensive testing of the product and were very confident about its quality, and of its value to test and measurement engineers. Red Pitaya tallies with our key business objective of delivering affordable, accessible, innovative products to our customers worldwide. This award is a fitting recognition for Red Pitaya's development team, and we are pleased to be part of its increasing commercial success."

Red Pitaya

Red Pitaya was founded, in June 2013, by four engineers with a background in robotics and high-performance diagnostics and instrumentation for particle accelerators. The company's first groundbreaking product, launched in May 2014, is a single board, open instrumentation and control ecosystem that combines a Xilinx-based hardware platform with an open-source online repository of applications. The product's affordable price tag makes it suitable for a wide cross-section of users, including enthusiasts, education, and industrial applications. For more information, visit www.redpitaya.com.
