RS Components Targets Indonesia's Burgeoning Online Market with Launch of eCommerce Website in Bahasa Indonesia

Fully transactional website re-affirms the company’s role in providing leading edge online offerings to the market

Philippines, 26 July 2011 :

RS Components (RS) the world’s leading high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products and the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE: ECM), has announced the launch of Indonesia’s most comprehensive eCommerce website to address the growing online needs of Indonesian businesses and customers. The new website is available in both Bahasa Indonesia and English.

The RS Indonesian website is the first eCommerce website in Indonesia that operates on Magento (Professional Edition) which, according to Forrester Research, is the leading open source eCommerce platform available in the market today. The website is also built on Amazon’s Elastic Cloud Computing (EC2) services, hosted in Amazon’s new Southeast Asia data centres. To ensure added security for online transactions, the website boasts a solid architecture with verified security by McAfee.

The new website features over 550,000 products and enables local customers to enjoy convenient and direct interaction with eight RS appointed distributors operating in the country.  Customers will experience numerous benefits by registering with the new website, including:

  • One year warranty with products purchased online
  • Free shipping for all online orders
  • Instant discount on bulk orders:
5% discount for orders over IDR7 million; 10% discount for bookings of more than IDR21 million; and 20% discount for orders over IDR70 million.

They will also have access to the company’s robust design tools like DesignSpark and DesignSpark PCB, a free-of-charge schematic capture and PCB layout tool for electronics design, for use by professional electronics design engineers, hobbyists, educators and students.

In addition, the website features an integrated Facebook login, providing customers with instant access from their own Facebook account, thus giving them greater convenience.

Indonesia’s eCommerce market is set to grow to IDR35 trillion (US$4.1billion)1 by the end of 2011. This presents immense growth potential for RS and aligns closely with its strategy to become an eCommerce-centric business.

“Customers are signalling to us that we are heading in the right direction. eCommerce sales are now more than 50% of our overall revenue. In the Asia Pacific region, eCommerce sales grew over 60% in Q1, FY2012,” said Marcelo Wesseler, Head of eCommerce, Asia Pacific, RS Components. “We will continue to improve the experience of our customers, particularly through the web. The Indonesia website will provide an accessible and robust means for engineers and procurement specialists to obtain a wide variety of quality electronic components with greater convenience.”
